Wk 12 - Sick Kids are No Fun

Sick Kids are No Fun

A smallish post from us this week. This week started and ended at the hospital which is a great indicative of the type of week we had.
On Sunday night we noticed Gracie was a little unsettled in her sleep, breathing funny, and making weird disjointed movements.  As we hadn’t had a reason to use the medical system over here, we weren’t sure where to go or what to do.  We ran some searches on the Internet and found a free medical helpline, which we rang and explained Gracie’s symptoms.  They advised us that we should take her into the hospital.  By this time it was around 11pm on Sunday, having not been to the Hospital before an unsure how to get there, Anna didn’t want to go by herself, so we ended up bundling all the kids up and taking them all for a ride.  I stayed in the car in the carpark with the kids in the back and the heater on trying to help them go to sleep.  Almost 2 hours later, Gracie was seen, and diagnosed with croup, and a chest infection.  She was given steroids to help, and was sent home.  I think we finally got home around 2pm Monday morning.

Gracie remained sick for pretty much the whole week, it seemed that all Gracie did was wander around after Anna saying ‘huggie’ with her arms outstretched. Hyrum came down with it quite bad also, which meant that we had disrupted sleeps all week with a little boy in our bed. Ah, the joys of raising kids. Anna did get to bake her first wheat-free loaf in the oven, which actually turned out very well.

Friday was Alysha’s last day of the school term at her pre-primary. They had a Pirate Party to celebrate end of term, Alysha really enjoyed her day filled with pirate games, treasure hunts and a decorated treasure chest, They even had a fish n chip lunch. Earlier in the week she had mentioned to us that it was the end of the term and that she wasn’t happy she’d have to say goodbye to all of her school friends.  When we questioned her further we found out that she thought she was going back to New Zealand.  She has had three terms at school, and at the end of each school term she has changed schools. I guess she was expecting that to happen this time as well, but have reassured her that she will be going back after the holidays.  She really does enjoy her pre-primary and the friends she has there.

Funny moments
One day, daddy was late home from work and Anna and the kids were guessing why Daddy might be late home.  Alysha said - “That may be because when he was leaving from work, his friends gave him a present and it had 100 wrappings and it took him a long time to open”  “or maybe the people that daddy works with thought he was tasty, so they ate him”  :-) haha

Hyrum said to Alysha “That’s yuck, you can’t eat people!”  and added his 2 cents that he thought “maybe daddy has a McDonald s at his work and had dinner there”.

Another day, Hyrum was sitting in the back seat of the car and out of nowhere exclaimed “I’m Lightening McQueen - Ka-Chow!” :-)

Another day Anna had taken Hyrum shopping and she needed to use the ladies room.  She took Hyrum into the cubicle with him to stop him from running away.  Apparently someone knocked on the door, obviously seeing that it was engaged, but Anna didnt say anything.  They knocked again, and Hyrum, in a loud authoritative, but grumpy voice said through the door  “You just have to be patient and wait!” :-) haha.   The joys of raising kids!

Although the kids were sick, we did take them to the park for their adventure, which probably make them sicker, but they enjoyed themselves!
