Wk 2 in Perth

Another week has gone by already and it is the start of May. Grant has been working in Perth for a month now. He was joined this week by a consultant from Sydney that will support him in his role. Temperatures for mid-autumn are still in the mid-high 20’s and we cant get over what we think is beach weather and people over here wearing jackets, jumpers and jeans...

It was so nice for Monday and Tuesday to be a holiday that we could spend as a family. Monday we ventured to the local pools (Bayswater Waves). The facilities were nice and actually had very few people there which was also nice. They had a wave pool, quite a nice area for the kids and a hydroslide. The hydroslide was very slow (for us), but just the right speed for the kids - we all went down, including Gracie, and they all absolutely loved it.

Tuesday we wandered around the local area looking for the ‘pre-primary’ that Alysha would perhaps go to. We had been given some vague directions and had a little trouble finding it but got there in the end. Where the primary school is one street over, the pre-primary is probably a 15 minute walk away (not on the school grounds). Not sure if she will get in but will give it a go. She would be in Primary Year 1 over here if we were staying for next year. On Tuesday afternoon we filled up the Spa for an afternoon swim. I guess the previous tenants used the spa in the summer and so the temperature was set really low, so we had a cold spa, and need to figure out how to turn the temperature up :-) But since it was a hot day it didn’t really matter.

After being 10 days without a car, Grant went to the car auctions on Wednesday night to see if he could pick up a cheapie. Car prices over here seem ridiculously expensive, and the auctions seem the cheaper way to go, (even if there is no guarantee). Anyway, the auction started and finished without us getting a new car - will treat it as an educational session - and we will see what this coming Wednesday brings.

On Thursday, Anna and the kids walked to the local library, signed up and got some books and DVDs out. They saw some chicks and some eggs that a local farmer had brought in (for easter I guess) - and while they were there an egg actually hatched to the kids amazement. The library said we could take a chick home if we wanted to, but we don’t really have any garden to keep them, so we left them. Now Alysha is asking if we can have a dog as a pet - and we are having to say, well, we’ll see when we get back to New Zealand. On Friday Anna and the kids then went back to the library for reading time, books, songs and colouring...

Yesterday we went to the movies as a family to see ‘Rio’. The movie was good, with great animation but I think it was the first and last time we will take all 3 kids to the movies for a while. Hyrum and Gracie just wouldn’t sit still. If they were eating they were half okay, so in the middle of the movie, Anna went out and brought some more popcorn to see if we could last the rest of the movie - which they did, just!.

Yesterday afternoon we met Anna’s cousin David and his wife Gretchen and there two kids Caitlin and Bruce. Was really nice to meet them, they only live about 5 mins drive away -they were very friendly and very helpful. They gave us a number of toys and trikes too, that the kids loved. Hopefully we will catch up with them again soon.

Walked to church and back again this today, another 3km there and back in the hot sun. Nice walk but hopefully for not too much longer. Will keep you posted
